New Band!
I recently heard an interview with Johnny Flynn on NPR. This guy is amazing. He has a real talent with words, especially alliteration and rhyme, reminding me a little bit of Yeats (who he cites as an influence). If I heard correctly, the interviewer for NPR stated that he is actually a descendant of Shakespeare. In any case, his musical style is sort of Indie-folk with an interesting mix of male and female back-up vocals. That is something that I really appreciate in a band and part of the reason that I like Belle and Sebastian and the New Pornographers so much. In so far as overall talent, I think that Belle and Sebastian are a bit more creative musically, but the poetry and lyrics of Johnny Flynn and the Sussex Wit (as they are called) seem to be more technically complex. Anyways, I am listening to the album A Larum (I think from the Middle English for "alarm") and it is very engaging. I don't really have a feel for the meaning of the lyrics yet and that will probably take a few more listenings to. Check them out on Myspace for a good representation of their music: http://www.myspace.com/johnnyflynn

Halloa! Is this blog dead, or are you just currently overwhelmed with translating? (I came here looking for a full text/translation, & possibly musical setting, of Earendel online, but I guess I'll have to do it myself.)
Don't do it!
And why not?
you haven't posted in veritable ages!
