Huzzah for contractions!

Generally speaking, I like contractions.  There are times and places in which they are not appropriate, but overall I think they are an interesting and noble part of the English language.  The thought that you can negate a sentence or phrase by adding an n't to the ending of a helping or linking verb just seems fun.  Its almost like it makes English a more heavily inflected language.

Regarding this absurd little interest of mine, I think the phrase "had not" preceded by a personal pronoun deserves particular attention and appreciation.  Mostly because, guys...THERE ARE SERIOUSLY TWO DIFFERENT WAYS OF FORMULATING THE CONTRACTION.  ARE YOU AS EXCITED AS I AM?  You could could respond in two different ways!  "No Jason, I hadn't thought about it that much" OR you could say "No Jason, I'd not thought about it that much."  Its the same phrase, but contracted differently.  I think I tend to use the second option more often than the first, but I'm not sure why.  I guess I just like the sound.

Its times like this that I am pretty sure I picked the right major...

Hello! I love the blog! And the post! And especially the word "Huzzah!" It's not used nearly enough these days!
